Replacement engine is probably your best option Andy. The problem is you don't know if there is any work needed on the head or block, if the head needs a skim and the block needs decking then it'll need to be dismantled. Add up the cost of new headbolts and gasket sets, oil seals etc then it gets costly.
Another option, get the replacement engine in, dismantle the old one and get the block and head rebuilt whilst it's out of the car then there's no pressure to get it sorted quickly. Once it's done get it refitted and sell the old one after taking some vids to show it in full running order and the jobs a good 'un. You're still spending the same but at least you can blat around in it in the meantime.

I know nowt about engines....
But... I like how the rear number plate is
square like a Japanese/USA version.
Get some raised engine vents and it'll look like a Supercharged
Sorry for being unhelpful.
Nice car.

Stop tempting Mr Ayres... He wants it standard so lets encourage that.. Be honest .. he needs no encouragement to mod!
However, if the proper restoration and return to original TRD-1 is anything to go by then this should be a cracker too
Looking at the HG pic Andy - is there damage to the fire ring on cyl-4?? (look about 11 o'clock - between cyl-3 and cyl-4)

So the engine was indeed dead. Luckily I had a spare from a donor car.
And today it went in.
It sounds sweet. Fingers crossed for mot Monday.

Saw it yesterday and it now looks a lot healthier after some interesting surgery by Mr. Chambers.
