East Mids Meetup

Hi All!

So an idea was floating around in another thread about a meetup for the east midlands and I thought I'd take steps to make that happen. This isn't intended to compete with the Kingswinford meetup, it's more to provide a weekend alternative that's closer to the East. I'm rarely free on a Wednesday and, whilst it is in the midlands, Kingswinford is a fair trek west. There appeared to be some demand so thought I'd give it a go. This is a one off to see how things are, but could be regular if needed.

My thought was to meet next weekend (9th/10th) in the Leicester Forest East area somewhere. It appears to have good access from all directions so if anyone knows it better than I do feel free to suggest a location. Car park is essential, drinking establishment preferable, food optional.

Happy to find a time that suits the majority, but i'll take the lead and suggest 11am on Sat 9th to begin with. Reply if interested and if you have a place in mind. If not i'll find somewhere later in the week.

----Edit----

Current plan is to meet at 11am on Sunday 10th Jan at Foxton Locks.

Reply if you intend on coming!

I really have no preference on which day so we'll see what people come back with.

Try the Lancaster Arms in Desford - https://goo.gl/maps/a9hDs3sdmCT2

Haven't been there for several years though since friends of mine moved away from the area.
Don't know if it is still in the same hands. Pubs can change and not always for the better...

Foxton Locks is a nice location:

Been a few years now since I lived up that way, so I don't know how good it is these days. I think that might have been near where I accidentally jumped my old MR2 on a humpback bridge... missed the sign for it and by time I realised what as about to happen it was too late! Thankfully the slight rear bias on the weight distribution meant it landed on all four wheels instead of nose diving and the only damage was in my pants.

Foxton locks is great providing there isn't many people going. the Pub also does a good Sunday carvery. I last went in April in the Skyline. Parking was difficult as there where limited tarmac spaces... but im sure most MR2s can drive on and off a grass hill in winter???

there is actually a flat carpark on the mainroad and then you can walk down through the locks to the river. this could work if the bottom car park is full.

Easy, can't guarantee there will be much grass left after though. And some people will probably be precious about getting their car dirty! :laughing

are you having a dig at me Gaz?? my car just wont get dirty because it wont come out to play.
Lewis... as an idea, maybe organise it for a sunday carvery end of feb, march time? gives people more time and book a table for lunch (it gets very busy). once there is a clear plan on a new thread more people will see it and sign up.

In my experience giving people more time just leaves them time to forget about it and cancel at the last minute. We'll press on with this Sunday and organise another meet at the end of Feb/March. We can build on this, it'd just be nice even if there are only a few of us.

We'll say 11am on Sunday 10th (this weekend) at Foxton Locks.

Reply if you're coming. I'll book a table if there are enough people! :)
