Front Caliper rebuild

Well been a while since I stripped my spares set of calipers. So got them back from powder coating last week, thought I better do a write up in rebuilding the fronts. I will do the same for the rears sometime over he coming days. Finishing off my rear strip down

So first things first what you need

Here is everything full front seal kit and also a front slider bolt kit as the bolts were a bit too gone.

First up get some lube on the piston seals either silicone or red grease.

Gently press them into the groove they will fit quite snug. Once in check they are not twisted or bulging.
Apply a bit of lube on the seal.
Next up turn the piston upside and put the dust cover boot on the piston making sure it is the correct way up

There is a lip its had to show in a picture but the lip holds the retaining ring for when its all in place.
Now the easiest way I find is to prop the caliper up at a slight angle. A vice with soft jaws or a rag is best. But I couldn’t be bothered to go outside tonight lol. Then start fitting one piston at a time. Pushing the rear of the boot in the groove first

Once the boot ia located in its groove. Gently waggle the piston down to meet the resistance of the seal. Be very gentle as not much force is needed. Once the piston is square to the seal press it down in to the caliper.

Make sure the top of the boot sits in the piston groove.
Then press the piston all the way in.

Repeat for the other piston

Once both are done insert the boot retaining rings. No exact way but which ever is easiest. Make sure not to piece the boot or use anything sharp to press them in.

Then thats it. One caliper done. Time to move on to the carrier.
Very straight forward.
The carrier is just 2 boots and 2 slider bolts. The top one has the rubber piece on it.

So to fit the slider boots. I either gently and quickly tap the on with a mallet or you can press them in. Either way works but just take care not to damage the rubber

Once they are on its time to lube the slider bolts and push them in. Just check the orientation of the bolts in relation to which side you are doing.

Take care not to force them in as they should just fit in nice. Also its worth noting the one with the rubber ring will be a slightly tighter fit. Then just check the boots have seated on the slider grooves.
Then just a case of putting it on the car.
My finished caliper is this. Just without the S/S bleed nipple. Its in the shed.

Decals and colour might not be to everyones taste but I hope the read is useful.
The rears are a bit tricker but if anyone has removed the caliper from the car. Rebuilding it is not much of a task.
