Front caliper sliding pins
Hi all
I have a quick question on the sliding pins on the front calliper. Mines a 1991 rev1 calliper (but I think they're much the same in principle), anyway I'm using a repair kit to replace the seals and rubbers from Bigg red and it comes with a rubber seal for the end of one of the slide pins - the other slide pin looks identical but doesn't have a seal (either in the kit or on the pin). So clearly it shouldn't\doesn't need one - but I was just wanted to make sure I've also slightly mixed up the pins now (having dismantled the entire caliper before I realised the pins were different) - so not sure if the pin with the seal goes in the upper or lower slider. It's not a big deal as I've yet to removed\dismantled the passenger side so use that to check if I need to.
Anyway, just a little curious as to why only one pin has the seal and which pin is it?
thanks Jon

Re: Front caliper sliding pins
hi Jimi
Yes - looks to be part 47769 which is shown to be only present on the slide pin marked as "47715A (MAIN)". The other slide pin "47715A (SUB)" doesn't show it having the same seal.... just a bit strange why one slide pin needs it and the other doesn't.
Thanks for the diagram - I can see what's what now ;o)

Re: Front caliper sliding pins
Both slider bolts are the same if I remember correctly and also they both need a rubber boot item 47775 in the part diagram. You can see there are two of them. One for each slider. The boots are rubber bellows bonded on to a steel mount. This is pressed in the caliper carrier. I’ll include a picture of a rebuilt caliper
You will see how it looks when assembled.
Hope this clears things up.

Re: Front caliper sliding pins
Hi
It's not actually the boots I'm querying, but the small 'o ring' shown just above the boot in Jimi's diagram. This is part number 47769 and fits in a groove on the actual slider bolt itself. The other slider bolt, however, has the groove but doesn't have the o-ring. This is how things are supposed to be I believe - just a little odd that's all.
I've tried to include a photo of this below - the left hand slider bolt has the o-ring fitted, whereas the right hand bolt just has the groove for the o-ring but not actual o-ring is required.

Ah right I see what you mean. The one with the o ring appears to be the lower bolt. Maybe its to help prevent water ingress or something.
