Tyre Change?

I bought my MK2 with Team Dynamics Monza R 17" wheels, 7Jx17H2 with ET +38. The rear wheels have a 7mm spacer. Now I have the same tyres all round, 215/40. Having reviwed the forum info it suggest a best rear is 235/40 with the 215/40 on the front. Now according to the web the best I can get on these wheels would be a 225/40. Can anyone suggest whether it is worth upgrading two to 225 and putting them on the back?? I have two brand new 215/40 tyres on and the other two are not really worn out yet. Thanks in advance for any input.

Any excuse to pic whore. :)

17x7 all round. Goodyear Eagle F1 215/40/17 front 235/40/17 rear.
Ran like that for ~2 years. Back end only ever stepped out once due to driver error.

Hump back bridge followed immediately by an unexpected 90 left.
First time I had ever been down that lane...

The stock tyres (on staggered wheels) have a 30mm differential (195/225).
10mm isn't enough imo. I wouldn't consider going below 20mm.
That said, my car didn't have any spacers.

OK decided to bite the bullit and change the two part worn tyres for 235/40 and stick them at the back. What's the best make with some stick? I put continental contact sports on the rear of a well know sports car (not an MR2!) in the past and they were less than grippy on the road. I've got one above for Goodyear Eagle F1. Thanks in advance for any recommendations you all have.

Goodyear Eagle F1 are what I would consider Premium. Toyo T1R's, Hankook EVO V12's a premium mid range, which I have on my turbo and it grips very well. I've had Conti's before and they were OK but gave you plenty of warning when you were going to lose grip.

Horses for courses tbh. Go with what you are comfortable with spending and trusting in your rubber depending on your driving style.

Me personally, I'll stick with the Toyo T1R's now I have my car setup the way I want it and I drive it in the Snow/Rain/Ice/Dry.

Thanks for that one. I have two brand new 215/40 Toyo T1R's at the back at the moment that will be moving to the front.
