The lock wiring on these must be either complicated or weird.
Neither, your problem is either a faulty microswitch in the drivers door or faulty wiring from the door to the car (fairly common on MK2's) ;)
Not the microswitch - we changed that! Yes, quite likely a crossed wire, but I can live with it. I like "quirky". :)

Not crossed - open circuit, not quirky - just faulty :laughing
Black is not a colour ! .... Its the absence of colour

Hi guys,
thanks for the info - i have got a replacement micro switch (well a used 'in working order' from ebay) - arrived over the weekend - typically it arrived after i had dropped the car off at the fabrication shop - so will have to wait for it to come back until i can get the door off and swap it over.

So i had a call from the fab shop at lunchtime asking me to go and see the car - was worse than they thought now the rear bumper is off - both sills need replacing as well as both are shot - so now looking at close to £1300 inc vat instead of the original figure...damn it :( :(

Basically exactly the same as mine then. Where does he get all these mr2's from. He seems to have a constant supply as there are always adverts up. And they all seem pretty shoddy.

MMM...does make you wonder where indeed he does find them...well im just hoping they find nothing else when the sills are off - hopefully its pretty straightforward for them to fix the new ones on..but knowing my luck with this car..who knows.

I spent a lot of money because I wanted everything perfect before I could really enjoy it, but the reality is that although the engines have that jap reliability I think a lot of the other components don't. These cars are damn old now and they are cars that will have been driven hard. I think they are all starting to fall apart. Mine certainly seems to develop a new fault each week. Usually the breaks or suspension

Hi guys,
Finally got it back last night...looks great and the team at Penguin Speed Shop did a cracking job - fabricated the new sills themselves, and sorted the boot quarters as well. Spot on job.
Regarding the stereo though - i cannot seem to get an Iso Harness to fit - i have tried the standard 'amplified' 14-pin version, and another amplified lead as well - no joy.
Took it to MR2 Ben - they seems to think my car as a 'high-end spec' amplifies system which - guess what - not that many have and they don't stock the lead for - only available as a mail order.
Anyone else had this scenario? Its a 14-pin lead from the car and also another small square plug too - i don't know how to upload photos to show you all.
Thank you.

Also, fitted the replacement driver door side micro switch for the central locking - didn't solve the problem - would the passenger side likely have knackered? It's only £15 for a 'working' used loom from ebay - wondering if it's worth a shot? Do these fail as much as the drivers' side seem too?
Cheers.

Hi All,

Sorted both the stereo and mirror switch issues.

Stereo - like a fool i didn't realise the unit wasn't earthed until it's bolted into the chassis - as soon as it was it worked fine.
Mirror Switch - turns out the small 3 pins on the switch aren't long enough to reach the wires in the loom plug - so had an auto-electrician bridge them and now works spot on.

Need to replace the subs under the seats on the driver's side - anyone know of a direct replacement and size for this - so i don't have to make my own template/cut-outs, etc?

Thanks.
