power problem

Post by THE DON »

Hey all,

I have a problem with my 'W' plate Mr2 Rev 5 (n/a)

I have noticed that when I get to 5,000 rpm in 4th/5th gear it doesn't seem to want to give any more power - there is no engine management lights or any funny noises/smells, it just seems to not want to go past that point. Basically when it gets to 100mph there is nothing left.

Up until then she pulls strong (most of the time - i think acis may be intermittent as sometimes its a more noticeable change when that kicks in, other times hardly noticeable at all)

but it just feels like there is not a lot left - now I do know that it used to pull fine past that point

Im aware there is no MAF sensor to clean/replace on my model - anything else worth looking at. There are no leaks, no strange noises, nothing that points at anything untowards, so that is why I have approached this fountain of knowledge! Please help :)

thanks in advance

Don

is it the same in any gear? you say that ASICs is not always prominent?

Check your VAC pipes and actuators - sounds like you have sluggish ASIC's.

There was a thread not that long ago that detailed how to check and clean asics fully.
Check in KY2 also.

sorry ---- our know your 2 knowledge base

other thing do you still have standard exhaust. Had standard on mine and when I went to Mongoose it opened up so many more horses.
with old exhaust 144bhp my 1st ever RR day - with mongoose 165bhp and much more responsive.

my exhaust is a custom made decat, and have had that for about 4 months with no issues and it did open the power up quite a bit!
