I'm a newbie. With an 03 roadster. It's got standard 5 spoke wheels.
15in front
16in rear.
Iv just got new front tyres put on 195-50-15
Currently on the rear are 215-45-16 but I'm going to change them they are near dun.
Can I get 225-45-16 on the standard 16in rims or should I just stick with 215s .?

I've been reading into this and everything I've seen emphases keeping the ratio between the two.
Stock on a facelift Mk3 (2003/later, where they have the 15"/16" setup) is 185/55R15 and 215/45R16.
IF you're going for 195's up front, then you probably want 225's at the rear (as you've identified, IF they'll fit the rims!).... if you get 195's up front and 215's at the rear, you're going to find it even more tail happy than normal.
Personally, I don't like the idea of having completely different rubber on the front:rear: different size is fine, but completely different grip pattern and rubber compounds really unnerves me as the car's behaviour will vary tremendously and unpredictably with minor changes in conditions.
The only decent manufacturer I've found where they do both these sizes in the same range are Goodyear "Efficient Grip Performance"... which isn't a premium sports tyre, but seems to focus on good grip and good fuel economy

I'm still reading up on the Good Year "EGP", but an "A" for wet breaking is a good start and I'm trying to work out how progressive the loss of grip is when it does go... I used to swear by the (now discontinued) Toyo Proxes T1-S - decent wet handling and braking, but most importantly, how progressively they lost grip when they did go: there were tyres that would hang on longer, but when the T1-S's did start to let go, it would do so very progressively and give you time to catch and control it. Their replacement: T1-R's aren't available in the MR2 staggered (stock) sizes... and also not as good for track days*, if you get a lot of heat into them, apparently the outside ridge can bind onto the inside pattern (as with most narrow groove designs on 95% of tyres), making for uneven and unpredictable cornering. Fine for almost all road use though - IF they did the sizes...

I've just gone for a full set of Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance tyres on my 53 reg MK3. Quite pricey at £380 for the set but needed something quick and given current circumstances, took what was offered (it was either these or budget Rotallas). How did you get on with your Goodyears, did they turn out to be a sound bet? Curious to know whether grip in the wet maintained well with mileage.
Keen to hear views from anyone who has had these on their MK3!

I never went with the Goodyears... I'm running three sets of stock wheels, all stock sizes: Conti Sport Contact 2's (summer), Yoko AD08RS's (summer/track) and Conti TS860S's (winter).
