Removing an Anniversary Edition Momo steering wheel
Forgive a novice question. I am about to have my steering wheel renovated and no one I know has experience of removing it. I'm hoping it is really straight forward and someone can point me in the right direction. It is the Momo part wood part leather Anniversary Edition one. Many thanks. Franc

Re: Removing an Anniversary Edition Momo steering wheel
Thanks guys. It doesn't have an airbag so I don't think I can do much harm by giving it a go (famous last words?).

Just take the sensible precaution of NOT taking the retaining nut off completely !! :-)

Re: Removing an Anniversary Edition Momo steering wheel
Thanks again for the advice. I must confess it was amazingly simple. To remove the central pad it is a simple gentle prising off. Start at the bottom and work upwards. Being a Momo wheel means it is held on by the six recessed screws and then simply unplug the wires to the three (two thumb pads and a central button) horn switches. I really was over thinking this...

Re: Removing an Anniversary Edition Momo steering wheel
Just to finish this off. I have got my refurbished wheel back and it looks like new. I used Myrtle Products Ltd down in Margate. The total cost was £280 (£200 plus carriage plus VAT). I was never a fan of the Anniversary wheel as I don't usually like wood trims on a steering wheel (suits a Bentley etc but not a Toyota) but this now looks really good. Slowly but surely the car is coming together and getting back to its original standard.

Re: Removing an Anniversary Edition Momo steering wheel
Well Brian, I can tell you it has turned into a bit of an obsession! Finding the missing or damaged bits has been much harder that I imagined. For example, an original exhaust became a real marathon. Luckily I live close to Toyota's UK HQ and people there have really helped. Good news is that my wife has caught the bug. She even comes to shows...
Re: Removing an Anniversary Edition Momo steering wheel
Ah this is great to see! I was just chatting to a guy from Myrtle Products Ltd on the phone a couple of days ago about helping me out with mine and he mentioned he'd done another one a couple of weeks previously, so its nice to see a picture of the finished item. Did they do any work on the central section and the horn press areas for you, or just the outer section?Franc wrote: ↑28/03/23 16:06 Just to finish this off. Re: Removing an Anniversary Edition Momo steering wheel
Apologies again Nick, I thought I had replied to you but found I hadn't sent it. The short answer is they replaced missing bits but not anything else. I mentioned before that it is my wife's car and she is very much into originality. So everything has been done to refurbish but maintaining its character. Luckily I have tradesmen I've used on older, and more "important", cars and they knew exactly what she meant. It has been such fun bringing it up to scratch. Keep me posted on yours. All the best Franc
