1992 turbo won’t start!

Post by BlackNonTurbo »

Hi people, After a very long time in storage my 92 turbo is being recommissioned. First step is to get it running. Last time it was started was about 5 years ago. Basically when you crank it over it just spins, it has oil, fuel and timing belt good. But it doesn’t fire and blows efi fuse. Where should I start? Thanks

If its blowing the EFI fuse then i would start off looking for wiring damage. maybe the mickies got in.
The efi fuse runs several systems including the fuel pump so thats another spot it would be worth investigating considering the length of time it has been stood.
If your happy with a multimeter then id disconnect various systems that runn off the efi fuse and start lookign for a short circuit

Yea I’ve had a little look about but can’t see any wiring damage from mice. I will check but believe it blows when I crank it. If I replace it and turn ignition on should I hear the pump go? Is there a list of what’s run off that fuse? Thanks

No pump won't run until you crank it.
Might be worth checking the ECU for capacitor damage as well.

Ok, I didn’t know if it primed when ignition is switched on. Where is the ecu located? Also how easy is it to access fuel pump?

No it doesnt prime. the pump only runs when its cranking.
You can disconnect the fuel pump relay next to the fusebox in the engine bay and measure for a short or see if it continues to blow the fuse. Once you can crank it without the fuse blowing id give it a squirt of carb cleaner into the throttle and see if it will fire.

You can test run the pump by linking B+ and Fp on the check connector. BUT I would find out what is causing the fuse to blow first. You can download the BGB & Electrical drawings from here https://mr2oc.co.uk/downloads/technical-stuff/mk2.html
Have you checked for fault codes ?
The ECU is located on the bulkhead (behind the carpet) in the rear boot.
