Central Locking - drivers door only locks that side

Post by diveboy »

Another marginly annoying issue with my new MR2. Firstly the remote doesn't work, light on the remote flashes but nothing happens.

Oddly the key will open and close both doors from the passenger side but only words the drives door from, well, the drivers side.

I have a quick search but either nothing their or searching for the wrong thing.

Thats usually down to the little micro switch inside the door. Prone to wearing away and water ingress causing the contacts to go rusty. However those little things usually cost north of £60. Having taken one apart they dont really repair, too fiddly. I got mine from MR2 Ben but he ordered it from Japan so could have cut out the middle man!

Central Locking - drivers door only locks that side

I think we agreed that in the end that the locking wasn't a feature but just a common fault:).

I managed to fix Will's (Wizzle) central locking microswitch by taking it apart and resoldering it. Actually a very simple mechanism. Turned out he had another fault though which was cured by replacing the lock actuator (white plastic thing the rods go to).

As mentioned (http://mr2oc.co.uk/forum/topic/159452.html) I also posted on another thread recently about how diodes were not required if you wire a remote locking kit at the door control relay and not down by the kickwells.

Brilliant thanks guys more added to the list.

OUt of interest its a 1996 MR2 GT and has a key fob. The fob doesnt do anything at the moment. Should it lock the doors? and if so what are the common faults?

If the car came with factory remote locking then the fob should work or be repairable. I take it you've tried a new battery and reset the fob. I'm not sure how it works as I've never had the factory remote locking. Previous owner on mine ripped out the system when doing the Turbo engine conversion:(.

My fob desyncs sometimes. Takes about 10 seconds to fix - unlock drivers door with the key (don't open it). Press and hold both buttons for ~5 seconds, release, press and hold lock button until the light on the fob flashes, lock and unlock the car from the fob.

My rev1 import will lock and unlock both doors from the drivers lock with the key, and will unlock both sides from the passenger lock with the key but only lock the passenger door :confused1:

I have just wired in remote locking and gone straight to the black and black/yellow wires going in to the yellow door lock control box.

works perfectly and easier to get to than the door loom :th:

Sadly no joy with new battery or resetting the fob.

Apologies for resurrecting this thread.

I have the same issue with the key not unlocking the passenger door from the drivers door. Other than this, the central locking works normally, as in I can select lock on the drivers panel and it locks both doors and the key works from the passenger door aswell.

Micro switch likely to be the issue?

It's on my to do list of minor niggles.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Looks very likely from everything written above. Be worth trying the Stu method as I’ve seen others succeed that way.

There is a micro switch going on ebay, might be worth a go. I guess you can't get them new anymore.

How did things go? Did the microswitch solve your problem? I am having the exact same issue
