Trouble selecting 5th and reverse gear.

Post by Jason Brennan »

Ive recently had a new engine fitted and since getting the car back ive had a worsening problem when trying to select certain gears. It started off occasionally but now am almost unable to select 5th and reverse gear. If I try and shift up from 4th to 5th it goes into 3rd. And if im trying to select reverse I end up in 4th. 5th and reverse gears are there I just cant select them. Any suggestions folks?

Could be the left/right gear cable itself or could be one of the C clips not secured properly when the engine went back in.

Also check they haven't left out the square peg locator that sits between the two selector asemblies, and that BOTH securing bolts are inserted into the gearbox, if the rearmost one is left off (sometimes people leave the left mount to gearbox support off) it allows the gate assembly to pivot slightly and you will lose gears.
