Front end rattle, help please

Post by AJSki2fly »

Hi

I am getting an annoying rattle/clunk from the front, this only happens on uneven roads. I have checked the track rod ends for play and bushes and all seems to be good. I can only get the car to do it when stationary if it is rocked from side to side, up and down on the front has now effect. Steering has very little play in it and I have just replaced the Anti-roll bar bushes with Polyurethane. Was wondering if it might be worn steering rack bushes?

Any advice on this would be appreciated. :confused1:

Drop links?

I'd expect knackered steering rack bushes to affect the steering.

Don't ignore loose stuff in the frunk!

Well I got under yet again removed bracket hiding steering rack, the rack mounts are ok, removed plastic under tray, missing 2 bolts, cleaned and refitted, still same rattle.

Scratched head a lot, got my racing partner to bounce car no rattle, then got him to rock it side to side, not easy with up rated springs, and yes there was the rattle. I reached under and felt suspension while he rocked. Yes there it was bottom ball joint on drivers side of link rod, :clapping: got it.

So you were right, it was difficult to get it to do it, anyway new adjustable links ordered. :D

They're absolute buggers for little knocks/clonks. Still chasing them on my Mk2.

Not Plan B again!! Why don't we just go with plan B in the first place?
