After the best wet performance tyres.
Ok so i just bought my first MR2 it's a NA Rev 3. I've got Bridgestone Turanza ER30's on the front and Nankang EX500 at the back on Stock Alloys.
I've got Work Equips to get refurbed and painted and i'll be getting tyres for those once that's done, that's really a few months down the line job once, Holidays, Stag do, weddings are all out the road and i have money to burn.
Right now though being in Scotland it feels like the roads are never dry and our summers last two weeks i'm after the best wet grip tyres. I don't need to get a set of 4 of the same make 2 of the same at the front and 2 different ones at the back but it's really all about wet grip.
So could anyone give an opinion on what i should go for?

Vredestein were good for me. Available in a fair range of sizes.
Goodyear Eagle F1s are the highest recommended if you can find a set that fit.

I have no qualms with Toyo T1R's or Hankook EVO V12 Evo's for that type of driving styledotty_84 wrote:3

And I'm a 3.5 to 4.

Re: After the best wet performance tyres.
Best tyres in the wet I've ever experience have been Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric.
Had them on the MR2 and it didn't want to lose grip, have them on the Altezza which can be tail happy and that never even so much as hiccups.
Easily found for 17s too which is a bonus.

After the best wet performance tyres.
All great recommendations. I personally like the Rainsport3's. However none of these (apart from the T1Rs) are available in stock sizes:(.

Re: After the best wet performance tyres.
I would be surprised if the Work Equips are 15".
I agree with Red, the F1s are in a different league. They remain my tyre of choice. The only downside is you can't get Asymmetrics for the front in 40 profile for 17" wheels, so have to use GS-D3s which are becoming harder to find. Not tried the Hankook Evo V12 so can't comment on them.
Over the years and several MR2 Mk2s, I've had Nankangs (which were removed sharpish - within 5 days!), Toyos (T1R), Falken (FK452), and Goodyear (Eagle F1). My latest acquisition has Nexens (N2000 I think) but I haven't driven it in the wet yet!Protok wrote:Best tyres in the wet I've ever experience have been Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric.

Re: After the best wet performance tyres.
I know that the Equips are Wider, I have to go back down to get them tomorrow as obviously the MR2 has limited space so i couldn't take them up with me. I messaged the the ex owner to get the wheel sizes.TonyleFrog wrote:I would be surprised if the Work Equips are 15".

I've read that about the Nankangs more than once! hence why i'm looking for new ones sharpish

I can't recommend enough Michelin pilot sport 3s, awesome, done wet track days with them too, excellent feedback

Speaking as one who knows - you may wish to exercise a degree of caution. They're not nankang-bad, but they're definitely not FK452s...TonyleFrog wrote: My latest acquisition has Nexens (N2000 I think) but I haven't driven it in the wet yet!

Re: After the best wet performance tyres.
Picked up my Work Equips, 205/45 R16 and 225/50/ R16
I could get Rainsport 3's and Toyo T1R's in those sizes.
Cheers for the help lads.
