I've got nexens on rear and Yoko's on front on my standard 15s and Avon's on front and a crap make (sempio or something) on rears of my 16s.
Are you really going to fork out >£300 on tyres just to corner a fraction faster in an 18min session?
If your tyres are safe for the road (where there are hazards everywhere and risk to life and limb) then why would they be unsafe on a track (which is a controlled environment with dedicated runoff area).
You're driving your car to have fun... and it's your responsibility to drive with it's limits, including the limits of your tyres. Feel free to buy better rubber if you want - the warning against cheap rubber is universal, not just for track.
Personally I'm going to be running on R888s which will stick like glue to a dry track... but they aren't my normal road rubber!
