mk3 track day tyres
Marnin all!
As part of my 40th birthday gift, Rachel has got me 4 sessions on track at the BHP Show in May. This will be my first time on track (so if you want to have a laugh - please come down ) .. Anyhoo .. Patrick is sticking some paint on my 16s which I will shed in Falken rubber for day to day driving...
That'll leave me with a set of pre-facelift 15s
So ... my thinking being to wrap these in some nice, road legal, track rubber.
Sizes are 185/55/15 and 205/50/15
What do people recommend?

AD08R's or R1R's are an excellent balance if you want something that can handle the track but are still competent on the road and able to handle a little bit of rain as well.

Yep - I've heard good things about both of those
(think Jim used to have some R1R's)
Rain is not an issue, if it's wet I'll keep the Falken's on
Anyone have anything to say on the Federal 595 RS-R's? (only for rear size)

Heard good things about them.
They were good enough for someone I know to set an 8m04s Bridge to Gantry time in a K20 swapped DC2 in any case, which is pretty damn quick!

I am sure corrie run ad08r's on and I know Laura was tempted by AD08R's

Re: mk3 track day tyres
Um.... why not start by asking "What can I actually get in these sizes?"
The fronts appear to be the limiting factor and from a quick search (camskill, ears, mytyres) that list appears to be:
Yokohama AD08R (£91 front, £78 rear)
Kumho V70A (£124 front, £130 rear)
That cuts down the decision somewhat... unless you want to run different brands on the front and back!
I don't know about V70As, but AD08Rs are awesome tyres! They aren't best for the current near-freezing temperatures, but once warmed up they were great at Silverstone yesterday; lots of grip and communicative, even when pushed over the edge. Not quite the raw grip of the R888s, but with 8mm of tread (rather than 5mm on the Toyos) they'll last much longer and are a legitimate choice for both road and track
IMHO, the prices make that a slam-dunk for the AD08Rs

Re: mk3 track day tyres
What width are the stock front wheels? 195/50R15 may be an option for the front.

Re: mk3 track day tyres
I did wonder that too Gazza. They're only 6s though so would be quite bulbous.

Re: mk3 track day tyres
Going 195/50/15 gives you a lot more options... R888s, R888Rs, AD08Rs, R1Rs, 595 RSRs and V70s all appear possible
