Standard astra VXR 0-60 mph - 6.2
Standard rev 3 turbo 0-60mph - roughly 5.5
My rev 3 turbo 0-60 - 4.7 with just breathing mods

:D

You have to specify what you mean by "faster"

I bet you £100 my auto would be faster around a sprint circuit than a 5000bhp dragster!

Are we talking:

1/4 mile?
B-road blast?
Motorway slip road up to 70mph?
National Track?
Hill climb?
Sprint Circuit?

Different cars do different things better than others you know ;)

Been in a standard VXR and can say they are very quick, like them or loathe them!

I think on a quarter mile the MR2 would have the edge purely down to grip.

And that's a stock rev3 versus a stock VXR.

Having said that I would think if the VXR was lighter it would have the edge.

hmmm 1/4 mile time for a stock VXR is around 14.7 and an MR2 is about the same isn't it?

I had a VXR before I had the 350z. It was very very fast but it didn't fill me with confidence at all. I saw off a few cars in it including a couple of tuned imprezas. It constantly begged me to have my right foot to the floor and inevitably I got points for speeding

As HM said, different circumstances will have different outcomes :th:

Sounds about right for a Rev1/2 stock tubby, Rev 3+ should be low 14's or high 13's with the same driver. Stripped out high-spec N/A's should be high 14's or low 15's from what i've seen and the old 6 pots with the usual conversions mid to low 14's with the N/A gearbox.

But bring bends into it and i would favour the V6 or the VXR to be quicker than the Rev1/2 standard turbo, but get on a slip road the tubby is going to get to 70mph quicker (irrespective or rev) IMHO.

Horses for courses - they all do different things well :th:

I drove an Astra a few years back at the Motor Show and i have to say it was like a go-kart around the bends. Very fun :th:

Not a VXR but I had a race with a Megane 250 last week.

They're quoted as 250bhp, but Evo magazine dyno'd one at 270ish.

Standing start I pulled ahead by a car length, then he stayed there all the way through 4th gear.

And I'm running about 290 at the moment.

Don't underestimate these newer breed of hot hatches.

0-60 times count for nothing.
