Rev 3 Brakes - A call for help - Bromley

Post by jdash »

Help - I'm an idiot so I entrusted my dad to help me install a rear brake caliper but despite the fact that he is much less of an idiot, we destroyed two of them. My car is marooned at my parents house in Bromley so I was hoping someone who knows their stuff and is not me can come over for a cup of tea/biscuits/sandwiches/a small fee and help me fit calipers to the rear. I have tools required for the job, brake fluid and parts and need someone very patient to come and explain to me where I'm going wrong and get my '2 mobile again. Can anyone help me?

What exactly are you struggling with? How are you destroying the calipers?

What tools are you using? A sledge hammer

If it helps, I have made a fair few custard cream ups and I'm a mechanic.

Thanks chaps. What we ended up doing was winding the piston out a bit too far (although it had stopped moving) to fit the groove on the pad and then it seemed that had broken a seal internally as fluid would then weep from round the handbrake crank when we went to bleed the brakes

Postcode BR1 3DL if anyone wants to bash that into their satnav - i'll obviously cover your petrol.

Tom - thanks, I was hoping you'd reply - you reckon you could make it over? I should be around next week most times as I'm not working then.

Unlucky dude. Sounds like an easy mistake to make. (I'm planning to clean up all my calipers soon, but this totally sounds like the kinda thing I would do) :/ Good luck with the fix
