Rev 3 Headgasket straight fit onto rev2 turbo engine?
I was told a rev3 HG was a direct fit on a rev 2, so I ordered One.
Now I have it I notice it is missing some of the coolant holes that the rev2 has and the coolant channel design in the heads are totally different
So I'm not sure I should use it. What is the general consensus??
Thanks
Dan

Its a direct fit. Some of the coolant channels are bigger in the earlier gasket due to it rotting away.
Did mine a few weeks back

Re: Rev 3 Headgasket straight fit onto rev2 turbo engine?
OK, here are some photo's of what I mean.
This is a brand new rev 2 gasket (no rotting) over the top of a brand new Rev 3 gasket.
The holes are smaller on the rev 3, which might not be a problem, but also there are two holes in the middle two cylinders on the intake side which are missing from the rev 3 gasket
The holes are present on the rev 3 gasket but they are much further around the cylinder
Looking at the channels on the head it looks like this will mean only a small section of the intake side will get coolant flow.
Anybody else notice this? Have people drilled the extra holes in the rev 3 gasket in the past??
Anybody ran a rev 3 gasket for a few years (of hard driving) and had no problems?

Hard to tell from the pics which way round the engine is, but are those head gaskets on the correct way ? shouldn't the arrow point to the timing belt end of the engine ?

Yeah they are both pointing at the timing belt side.
I appreciate that somewhere on the internet somebody has said they are a direct fit with no problems, thats why I bought one myself. But there is clear evidence there that the rev 3 gasket will alter the way coolant flows around the combustion chamber. So it would be nice to see some evidence that it will not cause problems before potentially risking my engine.
Not just for me but for others following the same advice
Cheers

OK, it seems quite a lot of people are using them with no problems, so I guess that is the only evidence needed.
I might still sell up and buy a Rev2 Cometic though, just to be safe, It could be that middle cylinders are getting much hotter than they should and there is no way you would know, your coolant temp sensor might even show cooler as the coolant is absorbing less heat than it was before. I suppose if you monitor knock levels then you could prove it out that way.
